I'm excited to introduce a fellow vintage lover and jewelry collector, Emilee Anne. Emilee and I have been pen pals for over a year now and have enjoyed sharing our love for fashion and vintage. With a sophisticated and feminine aesthetic, she's the iconic S&S gal.
If you're not already following her on Instagram, you must do so now here! She has an incredible eye for styling vintage jewels back to current trends, like this brooch it post that went viral on Instagram, and will surely add inspiration to your every day.
Emilee was sweet enough to style up a few S&S brooches and answer a few questions so that we can all get to know her better! Read the interview below.
Tell us a little about your background. Where does your love for vintage come from?
I was raised by antique collectors, so I spent a majority of my childhood being dragged to various flea markets all over the world. To make it more enjoyable, my Mom would find little collecting projects for me. On one of our trips to England we started a tea cup collection, which is still one of my favorite memories and possessions. Each trip it would be something else... until eventually I was an avid collector all on my own!
When it comes to costume jewelry, there's such a wide array out there as far as style, quality, and obviously time periods. How would you describe your aesthetic?
There is such a vast range of costume jewelry, and I love how different styles come back into style. My favorite aesthetic right now is feminine and nature-inspired... lots of leafy and floral pieces.
As a jewelry designer for Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Lulu Frost, etc. how does vintage jewelry inspire your work?
Working and designing for a range of companies has really taught me the importance of inspiration. My favorite part of a new season is always pulling inspiration images, going to museums and of course; vintage shopping! A lot of designing comes from taking older pieces and finding new and fun ways to re-invent them.
Where are your favorite spots to treasure hunt in New York City and Texas?
Oh gosh, there's so many! For New York my all time favorite spots are: The GreenFlea Market, The Chelsea Flea Market, and for splurges like vintage Chanel and Hermes jewels go no further than What Goes Around Comes Around. When I visit home, which is Dallas, Texas, I love to stop by Lula B's, Dolly Python and the Forestwood Antique Mall.
You do an incredible job styling vintage jewels back to your outfits, what are your tips for wearing statement jewels?
Thank you thank you! I love statement collar necklaces, and when I buy clothes I always think about the neckline for that very reason. I love slouchy sweaters with a deep v-neck or even off the shoulder dresses.
What are some of your favorite pieces in your collection?
My favorite piece of jewelry right now is my Chanel rhinestone choker, perfect for layering with lots of pearls or simply all on its own!
