There’s no better time than now to share our best practices for working from home! Over the past seven years building Sweet & Spark from the ground up, we’ve clocked plenty of hours at home working from our computers. We know first hand that working remotely has both its pros and cons. While the inspiring energy that's often created by working in person with others is more challenging to replicate online, there is something magical about changing up your daily routine and spending time alone with your thoughts. Below we’re sharing some of our tried and true tips for thriving in your at home workspace.

  • 1. Before diving headfirst into social media and emails, I start every morning with a journaling and meditation practice. It helps me stay grounded in my intuition which I count on to guide all of my decision making. If you’re into Human Design, I am a Manifesting Generator with a ⅗ profile. From there, an iced coffee and one of Kelly Leveque's Fab Four smoothies help get me kick started into work mode.

  • 2. Even if it’s just leggings and a sweater, I ALWAYS make getting dressed for the day a priority. When you feel good on the outside, everything else falls into place. My all time favorite leggings are the Lululemon 25” Align. I have them in almost every color and they are the perfect length for anyone on the shorter side. On days I work from home, they take me straight from my desk to yoga. I especially love wearing our oversized playful stripe sweater with them right now.

  • 3. I like to end any work from home day with a change in scenery. Some days that includes yoga, other days that’s a quick trip to the corner store to pick up dinner or a walk around the neighborhood. Over the years I’ve come to learn the importance of balance and self-care. You need action and introspection in equal doses in order to build beautiful things.

  • 1. I am not a big morning person, so starting my day with a few rituals to look forward to helps get things rolling. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I always start with an iced beverage, either a La Colombe draft latte or a Stumptown chocolate coffee with a bowl or cereal or granola. I like to ease into work by catching up on emails in my pajamas, while an old episode of Gossip Girl plays in the background.

  • 2. Getting ready (even just a little bit!) makes all the difference. I wash my face, go through my usual morning skincare routine, skip the makeup and pick out something comfy to wear. Recently it’s mostly been some combination of a cozy sweater and leggings. I'll add a headband every now and then for that extra something special. What I have not been neglecting is picking out my perfume scent for the day. It’s a little luxury that I’ve always looked forward to. Even though I am staying in everyday, it really helps me feel put together.

  • 3. To break up the day, which seems to blur together between work and personal time, I have been scheduling a daily late afternoon walk for some light exercise and fresh air. Even though we are all social distancing, it is comforting to see other people out walking their dogs or grabbing a few essentials from the local market, even if it’s just from afar.
